It’s time for a new character reveal? What sort of brave hero, frustrating foe and/or useless civilian could it be? It’s….
Shawshank is an Non-Playable Character Mutt will encounter in World 3: RavenTomb Correctional.
The prison is in total disarray when Mutt arrives and Baron von Frankenflap has taken control of the asylum. Turning incarcerated inmates into an army of frankensteined monstrosities. As one of the biggest and toughest inmates in the prison Shawshank has managed to keep out of the clutches of Frankenflap and hasn’t become one of his test subjects. He’s hatched a plot to break out of the prison and make a run for the border. But of course he needs Mutt’s help (he wouldn’t be much of an NPC if he didn’t right?).
Who knows what got him locked away in the first place… from the looks of his grizzled visage and assortment of prison ink it was quite a while ago.
Shawshank is a unique character in that he is not tied to one specific mission in that world, but three. Quick recap on how the objectives work: Each mission or objective in a world nets you a Toll Token, which are the primary collectible in the game. There are ten of these in each world and they vary drastically in what the player has to do before earning the token as a reward. In World 3 the main objective is to gain access to Frankenfalp’s laboratory to take down the villain. The downside is that the prison yard has security measures in place to keep the inmates on lockdown (as prisons tend to). Shawshank has a not-so-simple three step plan that will send players off on three independent objectives ranging from destroying security cameras ands taking out searchlights, to overpowering fuses in the electric chair chamber.
Shawshank’s design is one of a large hulking brute. His size and toughness have made him one of the big dogs (well rhinos) in the yard. That was until the recent events occurred and everything spiraled out of control… Sporting a snappy prisoner jumpsuit and shackles, he towers over Mutt quyite a bit more than most NPCs the player will encounter in the game. As a nod to the movie in which he gets his namesake, Shawshank’s prisoner ID number is the same one Tim Robbin’s character Andy Dufresne has. Who knows what got him locked away in the first place… from the looks of his grizzled visage and assortment of prison ink it was quite a while ago. His horn has been broken off in some sort of prison altercation and his tired eyes have seen things it’s probably best he doesn’t share. He’s not really much of a talker though, so that should work out nicely.
