As an Orlando-based team we are all deeply saddened by the events last night.
As many of you have heard by now a mass shooting occurred late last night/early this morning in Orlando. While the death toll has just risen past 50, (with 50+ more wounded in hospitals) we want to take this time to send out condolences to the victims and their friends and families affected by this terrible event.
I have checked in with the team and all of us living in Orlando are safe and sound.
We appreciate your kind comments and the recent check-ins of friends and family. I myself am less than a block away from the shooting location and have been up all night following the police chatter and watching the helicopter searchlights, as gunshots cracked through the air… It’s a very somber mood here, and the buzzing choppers are still circling the block as I type this. There have been some massive, senseless losses of life this weekend here in Orlando. Now more than ever we need to be there for our loved ones. Honestly, to be able to say I lived next door to the largest domestic mass shooting in the country, really puts things in perspective. Orlando is rallying already and blood banks are at capacity already with eager donors stepping up to show that not all humanity is lost. We applaud your efforts.

For our fellow Orlando residents; Facebook has a check-in feature that allows you to notify your friends that you are safe. I urge you to take the time to click the button to give your loved ones some peace of mind: FaceBook Safety Check. If you are able please be diligent about finding where there are openings for blood donation across the city. The outpouring is amazing and as far as I can tell the OneBlood.org site has crashed due to traffic. The need will be there all week, so please see if there is one in your neck of the woods and spread the word – thank you for doing so.
